Hi Guys,
Just a note to say the last of the UUFO
albums, The Chaos Theory, is
now complete and available for purchase via the
shop link. Tristan has done another amazing piece
of art for us and we've been particularly lucky
throughout this 3-album project with the small
but more than brilliant team we have in Tris and
Kate. They do so much more behind the scenes than
you could ever imagine - we're indebted to you
both!!! |
|
So folks, it's onward to the next project which
is DNA. The album, title to be
confirmed, will be out late autumn and is what
seems to be missing from the UK music scene except
for a handful of established bands that we all
know and love anyway. We’re trying to sort
out some guys to go live with for this project
so I'll keep you posted.
With regard to my solo work, I'm a third of the
way through my next album entitled Out
Of Darkness which seems to get heavier
with each track! I hope to get this one out by
late autumn also.
Well that’s
pretty much it for now other than to mention that
UFO have just finished a highly successful tour
of the States, with my wonderful web mistress
Kate on board. I hear even Phil was struggling
to keep up with Kate!! Only joking! Anyway, check
out this
link for the latest on the band and photos
of the tour.
See you all
soon!
Keep On Rocking
Dave

Hi
all, the artwork for The Woodcutter's
Tale is now complete, and superb it
is as usual I'm sure you'll agree!!
I want to thank Tristan Greatrex here for the
art he creates for my albums, I'm always blown
away by his artwork and you would not believe
how much time and effort that guy puts in, so
Tris, thank you my friend!!! Indebted to you
as always.
|
|
I'm getting the CDs printed up now, so the album
will be released on the 18th Feb. Listen to soundclips
HERE.
I'm in the process of writing the next album,
half of which is a lot heavier then The Woodcutter's
Tale and the other half is going to have a bluesy
rock feel, possibly with vocal tracks as well.
I'm also discussing some live shows, but as is
always the case, they are easier to discuss than
to put into practice! Anyway I'm very hopeful
as I want to get back on stage very soon. I'll
keep you all informed with any news and try to
update on a monthly basis. Cheers
for now and keep on rockin!!!!

Hi
all,
I received some terrible news yesterday. My very
good friend Tony Brown died at the age of only
43.
Tony was a very funny guy and wouldn't hurt a
fly, and there was nothing he didn't know about
The Clash, Kiss and the second world war!
He will be sorely missed by friends and family,
my heart goes out to his family and also to the
guys who knew him most, my dear friends. When
you get to the pearly gates Tony, tell them about
the second world war mate, they'll love hearing
about it!!
Love ya!

Hi all,
Would just like to take the opportunity to wish
you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and
Healthy 2008 and Thanks for your continued support!
I have two
solo albums planned for 2008, and also an album
with my good friend Ritchie. He is busy now writing
lyrics for this, and the album already shows great
potential. We also intend to get out and play
live.
I must also thank my friends for their incredible
support the last few months. It's not been an
easy time here, but their support eases things
immensely. Time for a quick name check; Kate,
Tris, Paul S, Paul H, Geoff, Martin, Mick, Ritchie,
Mary and Kirsty - thank you all!!
Well, here's hoping to see you in 2008 - I'm off
to go and kick this year's ass out of the way!
Cheers!!!!

I
just want to send my deepest condolences to
Pete Way as I just heard today that his Father
passed away. My sympathies lie with him and
his family as I lost my Mother in June
and know the loss he will be feeling -
and it's especially difficult at this time of
year.

Hi
guys,
Sorry for the silence, but apart from some stuff
going on that doesn't need to be said here I've
been doing a lot of sorting out, so, where to
begin?
Firstly The
Woodcutter's Tale should be available
very soon as Tristan has sent
me the artwork, which is cool as *&^%!!! So,
as soon as the text and credits are applied it
will be ready for despatch. I've
already started work on my next album which I
want to get into a lot more over the coming weeks.
Our good friend and tremendous musician Russ
Hird (check him out if you haven't seen
him - the guy can play, great style and feel!)
recommended a drummer to us. We went along to
see this drummer and now he's in the band. So,
our line-up now is....
Ritchie Bee - Lead Vocals
Steve Bee - Bass & Backing Vocals
Barry Ellis - Drums & Backing Vocals
Dave Burn - Lead Guitar & Bad
Vocals!
So, as it stands we have just about agreed a set
list of classics and we are deciding on the name.
We intend to aim at Biker gigs and Rock venues
- whats the point in playing to people who don't
understand rock music! We intend to get to rehearsals
once we have some gigs lined up. As always I will
keep you up to date with how it's going. All I
can say is I'm dying to get back on stage!
As a side
project Ritchie and I are writing for the Chapter
3 album. We have some real good ideas
which should see a very good rock album by the
end of the year hopefully.
Two albums
I feel I have to recommend here, UFO's The
Monkey Puzzle and The Scorpions
Hour 1, both superb albums and probably
the best rock albums to come out in the last few
years.
So folks,
for now, thanks for tuning in, and thanks for
the continued support!
It's time
to Rock!!!
Very Best
Wishes,
Dave

Hi
guys, just to let you know I am having talks with
Ritchie and we are definitely
putting a band together this year. We won’t
be doing a lot of gigs but we hope to make the
gigs we do more of an event. Material-wise, we
are going to be doing predominantly classic covers
with a few surprises as well. I’ll keep
you posted on timings etc as and when. At the
moment we have only a drummer to find - once we
have that post filled I will confirm members,
band name etc.
Cheers for
now
Dave

Hello,
and a very happy new year to you all! I've started
work on the next album and am toying with the
idea of gigging in the next 6-8 months, so we'll
see how that pans out! Some adjustments are required
on The Woodcutter's Tale, but
nothing major, and these should be completed very
soon. There are a also couple of gear
photos which I will kindly ask the lovely
Kate to lob on the gear page soon.
That's it for now but I'll update you as soon
as The Woodcutter's Tale is available.
In the meantime, one of the tracks - The
Sheriff's Daughter - is featured here.
Expect some more soundclips soon!

December
2006
I was
saddened to hear the passing of Alan “Fluff”
Freeman this last week, 6th July 1927 –
27 November 2006, I was brought up on listening
to Fluff every Saturday afternoon, he was a real
DJ, he let the music speak, his programme was
about the music, not him, unlike DJs now who feel
they are more important than the music, even though
were it not for the music they would not be there!
He played a wide
variety of music and gave many a band a boost
by playing them on his show. He became friends
with the likes of Robert Pant, John Peel, Paul
McCartney and others with achievements and influence
in the industry. Without his influence on me I
believe I would have had a narrower outlook on
music. Thankfully I don’t. He’s a
very sad loss to music.
On a lighter note
I went to see UFO
at Newcastle Carling Academy and boy were they
on fire. Vinnie Moore has now settled into the
enviable position as the guitarist in the band
and it was a joy to see the guys looking so comfortable
and relaxed, Pete obviously looking more relaxed
than the others! Phil was as he always is, on
top form and his humour was very entertaining.
An absolute pleasure to watch. If anything my
only criticism would be that Phil’s mic
could have been louder between songs. A very special
mention also to Kate who went out of her way to
talk to myself and everyone else who is on the
SITN forum. You astound me Kate for how much you
cram into each day and I’m eternally gratefull
to you for that!!
I’ve started
work on some new songs which are sounding pretty
good and as for the artwork for The Woodcutter’s
Tale, that is in the pipeline so it should be
ready fairly shortly.
Cheers for now
Dave

May
2006
Hi
all! I'm currently working on The Woodcutter's
Tale which is going well. I've decided
to put a couple of surprise covers on there
- I say 'surprise' covers as I feel the tracks
are not what I would normally be expected to
do. Also I have been upgrading my studio, so
production should be better, and the drum recording
has vastly improved - just gotta get my head
round the rest of it all!
I was fortunate to see one of my all time favourites
on Saturday 20th May - Leslie West
and Mountain. He still plays
fantastically well and with such a good humour
- he is very inspiring!!!
Ritchie and I have decided
to start writing again for an original project
under the guise of Chapter 3.
This will be first writing we have done together
since the second Nobody's Fool album,
Turn Another Page in 2000.
The album will be classic/hard rock based with
a darker edge. Ritchie has started the writing
process and as soon as I've finished working
on The Woodcutter's Tale I will join him - and
the album will hopefully be available by December.
A brand new website is also planned, and gigs
are already being discussed. Stay tuned!

April 2006
It's been
a busy old month and a half, but I am
pleased with the response The
Memory Remains has received.
Thanks to everyone who has commented
on it! After finishing that album I
went straight onto mixing The
Chaos Theory for the project
with Ritchie (UUFO).
We've had to shelve that for the time
being, so I have started the writing/recording
process for The Woodcutter's
Tale. I already have a good
idea of what I'm aiming for with this
album so I don't see it as being such
a traumatic experience - but you never
know when you're going to get a block!!!!
There may be an announcement soon -
can't say more than that at the moment,
but it could prove interesting!! Anyway,
I'll close by wishing you all a Happy
Easter and here's to a great summer!!

March 2006
Today marks thirty years since the tragic passing of
Paul Kossoff - such a master of the guitar
Paul may not have had the technical ability to fly around
the neck at great speed, but he had the ability none
of the
speed players of today have - he can make you weep with
just a note or two.
His playing has the power most guitar players strive
for, the power to affect someone's emotions.
There have been only very few players who have that
ability. I was lucky enough to be brought up around
the time
Free were popular, yet not so lucky
to have seen Paul play live.
So, if
you have any Free or Back Street
Crawler in your collection, play a track or
two,
just as a mark of respect to a man who, in music, should
never be forgotten.
To quote a poigniant line from Shooting Star by Bad
Co.,
"if you listen to the wind, you can still hear
him play". So true!
I'm proud to have been able to have the chance to record
my respect to my favourite musician.

March 2006
Well it's been a very stressful few weeks but
the job is done!
The Memory Remains is finished and
I have to say I'm very pleased with it.
I believe, and hope, that it is a suitable tribute to
a fine musician, but it's not for me to decide that!!
This has been a labour of love. I didn't have an idea
as to how I would go about this
but I do think I've captured Paul's style - not on all
tracks as this is my writing - but I did incorporate
his chords/progressions/vibrato and tried to keep his
brilliant simple-but-effective style.
End result, I would like to think he wouldn't hate it!
So, there's a copy going to the All Right Now
website for review...
As usual Tristan has done an astonishing
job of the artwork. I gave him a very vague idea
and he has lit the work brilliantly - it has depth and
a sombre yet respectful look. A true tribute.
OK, after all that vibrato I'm taking a week off to
get back to normal...
playing like Paul Kossoff is a very emotional and draining
thing to do but also a great pleasure!
After a small break I have the master recordings of
the UUFO final part, The Chaos
Theory
to mix which I have to finish by the end of the month.

February 2006
With regard to the UUFO project,
Close Encounters is now finished
and I'm meeting up with Ritchie next
weekend to put the finishing touches to
the vocals for the final UUFO album
of the project, entitled The Chaos Theory.
I'll start mixing this album in late March and hopefully
have it ready in April.
I'm desperately trying to finish The Memory
Remains in time for
Paul Kossoff's anniversary on 19th
March.
It's sounding pretty good, but I've got a lot to do,
so am fighting the clock now!
My deepest thanks to Kate for for updating the website
and making it look so good!

January 2006
Well, I hope you all had
as good a holiday time as I have had! Now it's head
down and back to work.
Will start work on recording The Woodcutter's
Tale this week which I hope to have finished
by the end of March,
and A Long Way Down which is
a tribute to Paul Kossoff
which I want to finish in time for the sad 30th anniversary
of Paul's passing on 19th March.
I've also started writing my second classical album
Im Namen Der Liebe (In The Name Of
Love) which I anticipate
will take me until November/December to finish.
I've just finished mixing the UUFO
second album Close Encounters and just
waiting for approval before that is printed up,
after that there is one more UUFO album,
The Chaos Theory, which will tie-up
that project.

November 2005
Ok, Perceptions
is now available. I'm really excited about this album
as Tristan has done a fantastic job of the artwork,
Thank you my friend!! First reactions seem very positive,
which I'm very pleased with.
As with all musicians there are things on there musically
which I'd change, but you just have to stand back and
accept.
I have also just finished Fortunato Nato,
my first attempt at a classical album, which I'm pleased
with,
but be warned, it's classical and there isn't that much
in the way of guitar until half way thru'.
I'm still working on The Woodcutter's Tale
and apart from a technical glitch on some equipment,
it's going well!

October 2005
Just to update on things,
I spent last weekend recording the last lot of vocals
for the UUFO album Close Encounters.
Recording the vocals is a logistical nightmare in any
case, but I managed to contract tonsillitis
and spent most of the weekend in painful discomfort
- not really conducive to recording vocals!
Never mind, Ritchie pulled out all the stops as usual
and sang superbly, so... job done!
Now I have a month of mixing - oh what joy!! If you
don't hate the tracks by this point, the mix will usually
do it! Only joking!!
I'm just waiting for the artwork for Perceptions
from Tristan to complete that project, but Tritsan is
extremely busy
so a bit of patience is suitable here. I can't wait
to get that artwork as Tristan has done a brilliant
job. It's real Hypgnosis-type art.
I have started to work on my next project which has
a working title of The Woodcutter's Tale.
I have a few ideas kicking around for that at the moment,
and Tristan has agreed to do the artwork for that album.
You'll never know how he has pushed me and helped ...
he's a star!
I'm also half way through a classical album Fortunato
Nato (Born Lucky) which is all but finished.
I hope to complete it by the end of November.
Other projects in the fire are an album written in dedication
to probably my main influence Paul Kossoff,
the working title for that is A Long Way Down.
I have one or two ideas recorded for that, and I'm looking
forward to getting stuck into it.
A final UFO tribute album with Ritchie Bee entitled
The Chaos Theory is in the pipeline,
plus an album of instrumentals that influenced me at
an early age, things like Bron-Y-Aur, Sylvia, Samba
Pa Ti.
I've yet to finalise the tracks/order and it will be
more of a "when I can get round to it" album!
